YEAR FIVE'S MINI FETE

In Term 4 Year 5 held a mini fete to raise funds for the Year 6 Farewell.  Everyone had a great time with activities such as hair spraying, face painting and sponge throwing.  Altogether over $3000 was raised.

FATHERS' DAY "EXTRAVAGANZA"

A very special day was organised to enable over 130 Fathers to experience the school and join with their children in the day's activities.  After a tasty breakfast, they were shown how whiteboards are used in classrooms and heard a presentation from David Socal from Relationships Australia. They visited classrooms and in Class 2/3G helped students design and make clothes from newspaper. Lawn bowls was planned for after lunch.

THE SCHOOL OLYMPICS

Recount by Hamish 2/3G

On Wednesday W.P.H.P.S. had a mini Olympics.  Kindergarten had their go first and the primary went second.  First we played a game called "Keep the Ball on your Racquet".  Secondly we played a game with Mrs Gillings.  There was a goal with a stick in the middle and you had to hit the stick with a tennis ball.  Thirdly we played a game and you had to go zigzagging around three poles and then throw a football into a soccer goal.  Fourthly we played a soccer game called "Shark" with Mr Frances.  We did a few more activities.  My favourite activity was "Bullrush" with George Gillings.  When the horn went two times we had to go to the tennis courts.  After lunch we lined up in our country groups.  We walked back to the courts and we all had a closing parade.  We had a few speeches and then we went back to our classes.

VISIT BY THE SYDNEY SWANS

by Aaron T 6W

This morning was a special morning because Lewis Roberts Thompson, Daniel Currie and Aaron Bruce from the Sydney Swans came to our school to talk about healthy life choices. The first thing we did was to write down what we want to be when we grow up, our favourite foods and what makes a true friend. That was good because we could see how different we all are.

The second activity was to try and mark the ball that the swans kicked at us. We had to set a class goal of eighteen and we beat it by two marks! Then we all came back inside and asked questions about them and their team. Signor Dotta came in and asked them for some tips on what to do in training.

The third thing we did was get our show bags. In the show bags we all got a ball, water bottle, posters and information about where they are playing and who they are playing. All of the class got their footballs and posters signed. In the end I got to thank the Swans Players on behalf of the class.

This morning was a special morning because some of the Sydney Swans came and visited our classroom. They were enormous and big because they had to duck under the door to get into out classroom.

They started to talk to us about life and Aussie Rules first. Then they wanted to put us into 5 groups and tangle our hands and make a circle again. After that, they wanted everyone, without talking, to make a line from youngest to oldest.

I was the second oldest in our class. Next they told us to partner up and write three things that had to do with them. I was with Emma, when she told them I was a gymnast, I showed them my walking on my hands.

Finally we played a game outside. We had to catch a ball being kicked in the air. Our class with teamwork made 20 catches including Mrs Watson. I learnt that you have to eat healthy things to be a good athlete

ENVIRONMENT DAY - THE THREE R's - RECYCLE, REDUCE, REUSE

EDUCATION WEEK 2008 - OPEN DAY

Education Week was a great opportunity to reflect on the things which make our school such a great place in which to learn. Our Open Day gave just a brief snapshot of school life but exemplified the best of the school with parents, teachers and students working together to make it a terrific day. As always our students rose to the occasion with the Choir and Concert Band performing beautifully and students from a range of classes entertaining audiences with a range of items including poetry, drama, song and dance. Open Day was also an opportunity for students to show off their work in the classroom and the computer room and a number of parents were fortunate enough to be able to organise their busy schedules to spend some time in the school. We appreciate your support and the value which you place on your child’s education. I would like to thank the teachers for their efforts in preparing for the day and congratulate them on their outstanding commitment to the education of your children throughout the year.

THE LAUNCH OF THE FRIEND SHIP

The Friend Ship is our wonderful new playground which was built by our equally wonderful General Assistant, Mr David Rothery. The materials used in the building of the ship were primarily funded by the P&C with money raised from last year’s hugely successful Family Fun Day. The excitement and anticipation leading up to the “launch” of the ship on the last day of Term 1 was a credit to the event organising committee led by Mrs Angela Greatbatch. The whole team did a wonderful job organising the nominations and voting to name the ship, painting the beautiful underwater scene under the ship and creating an atmosphere of celebration and fun. Congratulations to the whole committee and a huge thank you to Ange for the enthusiasm which inspired the success of the day.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA

It was fantastic to see such a great turn out for our Clean Up Australia working bee. The school is looking wonderful and we are most appreciative of the efforts of the volunteers who gave up their time on Sunday. A special thanks to our Environment Committee who coordinated the day – well done everyone, thank you!
