THERE WAS A DRAGON IN OUR PLAYGROUND by Imogen 2S
One day a dragon was in the playground. She had pink and green on her body and yellow wings. She had a bright yellow star on her tail. She burnt all of the playthings. She was so happy that her tail was wriggly. She jumped so much that she made a hole in the ground. Then I cam out and I saw its wings move. After that it flew into the sky. |

HOW DOES A BIKE WORK by Luke 1/2G
Lots of people use bicycles as transport. Bicycles don't need petrol. They are powered by a person.
A bicycle needs two wheels which are connected to the chain and the chain is connected to the pedals which the person pushes with their feet. Some bicycles have gears which make it easier to get up and down hills.
Bicycle riding is a better option than driving a car because it keeps you fit and saves the planet. |

The Story of Ned Kelly by Hamish 2/3G Ned Kelly’s life started just north of Melbourne in 1854. After his dad, ‘Red Kelly died, Ned Kelly went to jail at the age of 16. The police had no proof of what he did. Ned Kelly was no longer in jail. The Kelly family moved to Stringybark Creek. The police were harassing them. Ned was angry. He got a Kelly gang and started hiding. One of the gang members knew the police were going to attack so he told Ned. Ned was ready for the police to attack. The Kelly gang re-railed the railways track. They lit a candle behind a red cloth. When the train stopped, the hostage came out, saw the candle behind the cloth and ran away. Now the Ned Kelly gang were outlaws. People put up posters about bringing Ned Kelly to court dead or alive. Ned Kelly snuck up behind a policeman and shot him. Another policeman came up and shot Ned Kelly in the wrist and in the leg. Ned Kelly collapsed. Ned went to court and got sentenced to be hanged. He was hanged and that was the end of Ned Kelly. |

WHY IS AUSTRALIA DAY ON JANUARY 26TH? by Victoria 3M
Australia Day is on the 26th January. It is a special day because it is Australia’s birthday. A public holiday celebrates Australia Day.
Australia Day is celebrated all over Australia – from the outback, to the beach, in the cities and even in my own backyard. On Australia Day there are fun activities and fireworks.
Two hundred and twenty years ago in 1788, Governor Arthur Phillip brought the First Fleet to Australia. There were 1 500 convicts on eleven ships making up the new colony. On the 26th of January, Governor Arthur Phillip and his men, hoisted the British flag at Sydney Cove.
On Australia Day, you might hear or sing the national anthem and you might see lots of flags. It’s a great day to become a new Australian citizen, It’s a day of celebration for us, but the aborigines don’t like Australia Day because it’s when other people came and took their land. They call it Invasion Day. |

AN EXPLANATION OF AUSTRALIA DAY by Katelyn 4L
The Australia Day that you know means BBQs, fireworks and friends and family, but what is the true meaning? Well on the 25th January, 1788, Captain Arthur Philip raised the British flag at Sydney Cove. Australia Day was originally called Foundation Day.
So I guess you're wondering what people do on Australia Day. Well the Australian of the Year is announced. People are nominated for things they have done like sports, science and arts. While other people become Australian citizens or recognise our heroes or just look on how far Australia has come. Well to be true, I don't do any of that stuff. I just sit back, relax and have a barbie. Maybe some people might have a BBQ or go to see the fireworks, or go to the beach or just be with family and friends. Your council might put on a fete with rides and stalls and lots and lots of food. Or you could also go to the beach with nice warm water and soft squishy sand. I'd definitely do that.
On Australia Day I normally watch the footy with my Dad and have a BBQ, or go to the beach and celebrate there. But most of the time I just have lunch with family and friends.
So whatever you do or wherever you go on Australia Day, it's still Australia Day, (even if your brother is still in bed). |

RAINY POEM by James 4E
When I'm sitting next to the window right against the pane, It's often when I'm really bored and watching the pouring rain, I watch it pour heavily down like a waterfall, When it hits the soggy ground it like the grass is having a ball. |
UMBRELLA by Maddi Fr 4E
Umbrella, umbrella, where have you been? I've been here and there, you were not seen, Now that I've found you, let's go for a walk, now let's talk.

MY BROTHER by Gemma 4E
He is a busy bee just dobbing on me He is a cyclone tearing around me, He is an ice-block melting in a puddle, He is a tidal wave soaking the house, He is an ice-cream party, Okay - until we have to stop! |

THE ARACHNID AND THE MOLLUSC
One day in a lovely schoolyard there were two bugs in a little bug city. The bugs were a spider called Leo and a snail called Cassie. They lived in a small house since they were a small family and weren’t very rich.
They live next door to a wealthy family who weren’t very nice. There were heaps of kids who were all spiders. The family travelled every day over the hills to get food and water where as the wealthy family had a slave who did it for them. The Shellie family felt sorry for the slaves. The families had a big river right behind their house. It was a metre wide and wet behind all the houses from the village.
Every bug liked the river because it stops the other village across the river who were the enemy. But the river was starting to go down due to drought. Now the enemy every week comes over across the river and steals food supplies. The village had to stop the enemy by making water or filling up the river.
Cassie and Leo were discussing how they could get water. Cassie thought of doing the rain dance. The rain dance sent water from the sky. So the Shellie family asked for a village meeting. A village meeting is where everyone in the village comes together and discusses something. The Shellie family discussed the rain dance ad everyone agreed to it.
Two days later everyone came together to do the rain dance. Rain poured for days and days. The river was filled and so was the dam, and the village lived happily for a long time.
